The one who cannot stand on his legs and prays on a chair

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 17282 )
Q4: A man had surgery on his knee, and after the operation it became difficult for him to stand and prostrate in prayer with the congregation, unless he was at the end of the mosque and there was no one on his left side. If he prays in the middle of the row, he must have a chair and a cushion; he sits on the chair
and prostrates on the cushion. The question: Is it permissible for him to pray alone while the congregation is present, in the absence of the chair and cushion? And is his prayer on the chair and cushion permissible in their presence with the congregation?

A4 : The one who is unable to stand prays sitting on the ground or on a chair if that is more comfortable for him, and he bows and prostrates in the air, and he makes his prostration lower than his bowing if he is unable to prostrate on the ground. It is not prescribed for him to use a cushion or pillow to prostrate on; for what was narrated by al-Bayhaqi and authenticated by al-Hakim from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The saying of the Prophet (ﷺ) to a sick person who prayed on a cushion: The Prophet (ﷺ) threw it away and said, "Pray on the ground, if you are able to do so; otherwise, pray by gesturing signs and make your prostration lower than your bowing."عاد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مريضًا فرآه يصلي على وسادة فرمى بها وقال: ( صل على الأرض إن استطعت وإلا فأوم إيماءً واجعل سجودك أخفض من ركوعك
Bulugh al-Maram 2:224
It was narrated by al-Bayhaqi , and authenticated by Abu Hatim as a mawquf report. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
