The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18512 )
Q 2: I became pregnant and miscarried in the second month. Do I have to give charity on its behalf in the form of clothing or food? And is it necessary to name the fetus?
A 2: It is not permissible for you to intentionally cause a miscarriage, even if it is in the
second month. If you intentionally caused the miscarriage, there is no expiation upon you for that, but you must repent, seek forgiveness, and not return to such an act. If it miscarried without your intentional action, there is no sin upon you, and no charity is given on its behalf, nor is it named, because the soul was not breathed into it. Rather, it is washed, prayed over, named, and an 'Aqiqah is sacrificed for it if it completed four months and the soul was breathed into it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
