Q2: A woman deliberately aborted her fetus while ignorant of the ruling . What is obligatory for her, whether that abortion occurred before the completion of its creation or after?
A2: If the fetus she aborted had been breathed into with the soul, meaning it had reached four months or more, then she owes the expiation, which is: freeing a believing slave. If she cannot find one, then she must fast for two consecutive months. If the soul had not been breathed into it, then she sins by aborting it, but she does not owe an expiation; rather, she must repent and seek forgiveness. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
