Burying the deceased before praying over him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 13719 )
Q: My grandfather passed away twenty-five years ago. At that time, everyone present was ignorant of their religious affairs, so they did not know how to pray over my grandfather, and they buried him without the funeral prayer. To this day, anxiety weighs on us, it hurts our hearts, we suffer greatly, and we feel we have fallen short. Therefore, we ask the honorable Shaykh to issue a ruling on what is obligatory for us to do now, after such a long time has passed. Should we pray over him now, or give charity on his behalf, or what should we do?
A: The time for the funeral prayer over your grandfather has passed. You should supplicate for him with forgiveness and mercy, and it is prescribed for you to give charity with whatever is easy for you; because the deceased benefits from supplication for him and charity given on his behalf. We ask Allah to forgive us, you, him, and every Muslim. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
