The criterion for travel in which the prayer is shortened

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of the fatwa numbered ( 18425 )
Q 4: (A) When I travel from Riyadh to Ta'if , for example, to visit
a relative, and I will stay with him for two days or more, is it permissible for me to pray the midday and afternoon prayers shortened and combined in the time of the midday prayer, knowing that the time for the afternoon prayer will arrive while I am with this relative whom I am visiting? (B) Is it permissible for me to pray the midday and afternoon prayers combined as four rak'ahs in the time of the midday prayer? I ask for detail, because I want to show this to some common people who are ignorant of the issue, and it is difficult for them to accept advice, perhaps Allah will make it beneficial?

A 4: If your stay during the travel is four days or less, or if you do not intend a specific duration of stay, it is permissible for you to shorten the prayer, and it is better that you pray each prayer in its time and do not combine them. If you pray behind someone who completes the prayer, it is obligatory for you to complete it following him. If you are alone, you must pray with the congregation and complete the prayer, and do not pray alone; because the congregation is obligatory and shortening for the traveler is a recommended practice, and the obligatory is prioritized over the recommended. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
