The Prayer of One Who Has Lost His Memory

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 18922 )
Q: My father has suffered from memory loss for two years, and he is approximately seventy-five years old. Since he does not perform the prayer properly, does not know how many units he is praying, and does not pray unless someone reminds him , and I, when I am present, pray in the mosque while he is at home, and he broke his fast during the blessed month of Ramadan last year, and I fed a poor person for each day . The questions are: 1- Is my feeding a poor person for each day valid or not? 2- Is it possible for me to stay with my father during the prayer at home to complete the congregational prayer? 3- When he is woken up for the Fajr prayer, he says: "I have already prayed," but he does not pray. I ask you to inform me, may Allah preserve you?

A: If the situation is as described, then there is no prayer or fasting required of your father; because he has lost his intellect, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The pen is lifted from three: the sleeper until he wakes up, the child until he reaches puberty, and the insane person until he regains his sanityرفع القلم عن ثلاثة: النائم حتى يستيقظ، والصغير حتى يحتلم، والمجنون حتى يفيق
, and your father has lost his intellect like one of these people. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
