Qur'anic Lessons: Do Teachers Use Visual Aids to Assist in Memorization?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 20878 )
Q: We, the teachers at one of the kindergartens, teach the children some of the short surahs of the Qur'an. Is it permissible for us to sometimes explain some of the meanings of the verses by using sensory cognitive explanatory aids? For example: - In Surat al-Qari'ah, when Allah the Exalted says:
Like scattered woolكَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنْفُوشِ
we bring some wool for the children. - And in Surat al-'Adiyat, we bring some pictures of ordinary horses. - And in Surat al-Zalzalah, we bring a piece of wood, put some sand on it, and shake it to illustrate the meaning of the earthquake. - And in the story of the creation of Adam (peace be upon him) from clay, we bring some clay. Do we have any blame for doing this? Please give us a ruling, and may you be rewarded. This is with the knowledge that most of the teachers have little knowledge of the oneness of the names and attributes.
And may Allah reward you with good.

A : It is obligatory for you to avoid interpreting the Book of Allah the Exalted in the manner described for several reasons. First: This method is not part of the practice of Muslims, past or present, in interpreting the great Qur'an. What the scholars have agreed upon is interpretation through writing and speech, and that is sufficient for one whom Allah wills to benefit and guide. Second: Using images of living beings is forbidden in the first place, so how much more so when it is made an interpretation of the speech of Allah the Exalted? Third: This action involves belittling the sanctity of the Book of Allah the Exalted and taking its great meanings lightly, and it is a means of manipulating the interpretation of the Book of Allah the Exalted through methods that Allah the Sublime has not prescribed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
