Fatwa No. ( 20763 )
All praise is due to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from: the judge of the Mahail Asir court, and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars, with number (6545) and date 6/11/1419 AH. The questioner asked a question, the text of which is: It frequently happens in our area that the police send us an inquiry about a car accident in which all the passengers died, their flesh was torn and scattered among the parts of the car, such that the flesh becomes mixed with the metal. They request permission to bury the car along with the flesh that cannot be extracted, in order to preserve the sanctity of the deceased. It may also happen that the car was stolen, and it is not known from whom it was stolen or which of the victims was the thief. Burying the car would result in the loss of the right of the person from whom it was stolen. We hope that Your Eminence will issue a fatwa that enables us to guide the police regarding their request for permission to bury
the aforementioned cars. May Allah preserve you, and peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah.

After studying the inquiry, the Committee responded that it is obligatory to extract the flesh of the deceased from between the metal, gather it in a wrapping, pray over it, and bury it. Whatever cannot be extracted due to its mixing with the metal is excused; for Allah the Exalted said:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
, and the car is to be returned to its owner. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
