Burying the deceased, supplicating for him, and asking Allah for his forgiveness and steadfastness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 19084 )
Q: My uncle passed away and we buried him. After that, one of the people stood up and spoke to us, making du'a for the deceased. He said that one of his relatives should sit by the head of the deceased and call him by his name, saying: "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so, remember that you have left the world with the testimony that there is no god but Allah, for he hears the speaker." What is your opinion
Your Eminence, is this permissible? And what is the best action to perform after the burial, from recitation and du'a to the end? May Allah reward you with the best reward.

A: What is established from the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) after burying the deceased is to supplicate for him and ask Allah for his forgiveness and steadfastness; as narrated by Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him),
That he (peace and blessings be upon him), when he finished burying the deceased, would stand over him and say: "Seek forgiveness for your brother and ask for his steadfastness, for he is now being asked."أنه عليه الصلاة والسلام كان إذا فرغ من دفن الميت وقف عليه وقال: استغفروا لأخيكم واسألوا له التثبيت فإنه الآن يسأل
It was reported by Abu Dawud in his (Sunan) and reported by al-Hakim and he graded it authentic. As for what was mentioned in the question regarding instructing the deceased with the testimony that there is no god but Allah after his burial, it has no basis in the Book of Allah or the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Rather, it is a religious innovation. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not recite at the grave, nor did he instruct the deceased, and the hadith regarding instruction is not authentic." And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
