Fatwa No. ( 18634 )
Q. A man suffering from external hemorrhoids that bleed, and who is unable to perform istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself) with water except by using stones. Is it permissible for him to use stones while there are remnants of blood on the organ, along with performing wudu' (the ablution for prayer), or is it permissible for him to perform tayammum (dry ablution with clean earth)?
A: It is permissible to clean oneself with pure stones or anything that serves as a substitute for them, such as rough cloths, provided that the passage is cleaned with three wipes or more until the area is purified. This is sufficient in place of cleaning with water, on the condition that the stones contain no bone or dung. As for the blood that continuously flows from the hemorrhoids, it does not affect his purity if he is unable to prevent it; as Allah the Exalted said:[At-Taghabun 64:16] However, he must place something to protect himself and prevent the blood from seeping onto his body and clothes. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
