Q: I hope you will grant me a ruling on a matter that has confused me, which is whether the full ritual bath is obligatory for one who suffers from hemorrhoids — may Allah protect you — after blood is discharged? Knowing that it is in large amounts and at intervals.
A : It is obligatory for one from whom blood comes out due to hemorrhoids to perform istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself), wash what this discharge has affected on the body and the garment, and perform wudu' (the ablution for prayer) for prayer. It is not obligatory for him to perform ghusl (the full ritual bath); because this is not a state of major ritual impurity. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
