Fasting of the patient with hemorrhoids

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 4882 )
Q: There is a personMuslim who was afflicted with a severe, intractable case of anal hemorrhoidswhich resulted in bleeding due to severe, acute inflammation, and this bleeding occurred during the blessed month of Ramadan. When he consulted the specialist doctor for his condition, the doctor naturally prescribed the necessary treatment that, with the will of Allah the Exalted, could help stop the bleeding and bring about healing, while permitting him to break his fast to take the medication for the duration of the bleeding and until the bleeding stops. The bleeding continued as it was even while he was taking the treatment. It is known that the patient was unable to stand or walk on his feet without the help of others due to the severity of the inflammation and the bleeding from the hemorrhoids. Is it permissible for this patient, in the state you have described to your eminence, to break his fast so that he can take his medication, and to perform the five daily prayers while the bleeding continues and his inner and outer clothes are contaminated with blood?
A: If your condition is as you described and you are unable to fast, or if fasting increases your illness or delays your recovery, then you may break your fast.
And you must make up the missed days, as Allah the Exalted said:
So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[Al-Baqarah 2:184]
And you must perform the prayer according to your ability, by praying standing, or sitting, or on your side; as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Pray standing, and if you cannot, then sitting, and if you cannot, then on your side.صل قائمًا، فإن لم تستطع فجالسًا، فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب
Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 2:622
, and you must purify yourself for prayer after the time enters by performing wudu for each prayer; because of his (peace and blessings be upon him) command to Humna bint Jahsh , who was suffering from irregular non-menstrual bleeding and could not purify herself, to bind her private parts and purify herself for each prayer. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
