Q: What is your opinion of the following hadith: " Whoever wants to know what he has with Allah, let him look at what Allah has with him "?
A: The aforementioned hadith was mentioned by al-Suyuti in (al-Jami' al-Saghir), and he attributed it to al-Daraqutni and to Abu Nu'aym in (al-Hilyah), and he indicated its weakness with a symbol. The meaning of the hadith is that Allah places the servant with Him according to where the servant places Him in his own self. So, the station of Allah in the servant's heart is according to his knowledge of Him, his awareness of Him, his glorification of Him, his respect for His command and prohibition, and his standing by His rulings with a sound heart and a tranquil soul, along with acting upon what Allah has made obligatory upon him and leaving what Allah has forbidden him, out of sincerity for Allah and magnification of Him, with hope and fear. As He, the Exalted, said about His prophets and the righteous among His servants:
Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive.إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَيَدْعُونَنَا رَغَبًا وَرَهَبًا وَكَانُوا لَنَا خَاشِعِينَ
[Al-Anbya 21:90]

And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
