Q: My question is about people who claim to detain stolen property so that the thief cannot benefit from it or take it away until its owner finds it, and it is called: ( al-Hawwata ). May Allah reward you with good.
A: The one who claims to detain stolen property so that the thief cannot benefit from it is considered one of the fortune-tellers who receive information from the jinn, so it is not permissible to go to him, nor to ask him, nor to believe him; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 2230 narrated by Muslim , and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:741 narrated by the Imam Ahmad , and Abu Dawud , and al-Tirmidhi , and Ibn Majah .
