Going to what is called the Mu'khidh

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
All praise is due to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. After that: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the questioner, the judge of the al-Wajh Court , Shaykh Saleh al-Jaloud , which was referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars with number (1692) and date 2/4/1426 AH. The questioner asked a question, the text of which is as follows:
A practice has spread in some areas called ( al-Tawkhidh ), which is: a person whose sheep are lost goes to a man called (the Mu'khidh) and informs him of their loss. The Mu'khidh tells him that they will come to him the next day and guarantees that the wolf will not approach them, even if he walks with them. Some of the Mu'khidhs take money, and some do not. They say: if you go to the man who performs al-Tawkhidh and then go to search for the sheep, you will not find them, even if they are right next to you. A man does not become a Mu'khidh until a karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person) comes to him while he is sleeping, in the form of a dream, in which he sees—as they claim—that he holds the wolf by its mouth and ties it with the end of his shemagh, and then he becomes a Mu'khidh. We hope you will inform us of the ruling on the one who does this and the ruling on the one who goes to him.

After studying the inquiry, the Committee answered: It is not permissible to go to this man called (the Mu'khidh); because he claims knowledge of the unseen. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever goes to a fortune-teller or a diviner and believes what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)من أتى كاهنًا أو عرافًا فصدقه بما يقول فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد - صلى الله عليه وسلم -
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:741
. It was narrated by Imam Ahmad , al-Hakim , and al-Bayhaqi from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). And in what was narrated by Muslim , from one of the wives of the Prophet, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
his Salah will not be accepted for 40 daysمن أتى عرافًا لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين يومًا
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5669Da'if (Darussalam)
. And such a person must be reported to the authorities; so that they can take him into custody and relieve the Muslims from his evil. And what was mentioned in
the question about the supernatural feats of the Mu'khidh and that the wolf does not approach the sheep because of him... to the end of what was mentioned—all of it is superstitions that have no basis. And if it were a reality, it would be seeking help from the Shayatins (Satan), which is major shirk (associating partners with Allah).
