Amulets from the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q45: What is the ruling on amulets if they are from the Qur'an?
A45: Writing a verse or a surah from the Qur'an and hanging it, or hanging the entire Qur'an on the arm or similar, to seek protection from a feared harm, or hoping to remove a harm that has befallen one, is not permissible; because it falls under the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
spells, charms and love-potions are polytheismإن الرقى والتمائم والتولة شرك
Sunan Abi Dawud 3883Sahih (Al-Albani)
. It was narrated by Ahmad, and Abu Dawud, and there is no specific text that excludes hanging what is from
the Qur'an. Also, because hanging an amulet from the Qur'an leads to hanging what is not from the Qur'an, so its hanging is prohibited to block the means to hanging what is not from it, and because of what that leads to in terms of desecrating what is hung on a person; such as using it as a pillow, sleeping on it, or being near it when entering the bathroom to relieve oneself... and the like.
