Q: If one combines Maghrib and 'Isha, is there one adhan and one iqamah, or what? Also, when we conclude the prayer, is it permissible to make a collective supplication, and likewise to send blessings upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) collectively? What is the ruling on repeating the imam's takbir, especially if the mosque has only one row?
A: If combining the two prayers is permissible due to a valid religious excuse, then it is done with one adhan and two iqamahs (one iqamah for each prayer). As for collective supplication, it is a religious innovation, whether it is after the prayer or not. Likewise, sending blessings upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in a collective voice is a religious innovation, whether it is after the prayer or not. Repeating the imam's takbir is done in the prayer when it is needed, such as when some of the ma'mum do not hear the imam because of their distance due to the large number of worshippers. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
