Fatwa No. ( 17541 )
Q: In our country, there are people who pray the festival prayer twice . They first perform their prayer in their mosques, then they leave and head to the large open area that accommodates them there, and they pray the festival prayer a second time as a single congregation. Is this practice prescribed in Islam or not?
A: What is established from the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is: performing the festival prayer once. It was not part of his guidance to pray it twice. Indeed, when 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went out to the prayer ground, he appointed Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the weak ones in prayer in the mosque, and 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did not pray with them a second time.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718a Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim from the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), and in a narration by Muslim : Sahih Muslim 1718b And from this it is known that it is not permissible for them to pray the festival prayer before the prayer in the general festival prayer ground. Rather, they must pray with the people in the general festival prayer ground once, following the Sunnah and avoiding religious innovation. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.
