Q 1: We have a mosque in the student housing, which is far from the university. Is it permissible to perform the Friday prayer in one of the university halls? It is difficult for us to go to the housing to perform the Friday prayer in the mosque. Is it permissible to perform the Friday prayer at the university?
A 1: It is obligatory for you to perform the Friday prayer in the main mosque if it is near you, and it is not permissible for you to hold the Friday prayer at the university; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9] And if you are unable to perform the Friday prayer in the main mosque, then perform the midday prayer at the university; because you are not residents, and the Friday prayer is only obligatory for you along with others. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
