The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 14844 )
Q 4: If a man leads people in prayer, combining and shortening it, and his ablution is broken during the last prayer, but he completes the prayer and then prays alone afterwards, what should he do in this case? May Allah reward you with good, and is the congregational prayer valid?
A 4: If he becomes aware that his ablution was broken during the prayer, he must break off his prayer and leave, and appoint a substitute from among the followers to complete the rest of the prayer. If he does not do so and completes the prayer with them without being in a state of purity, his prayer and theirs are invalid, so they must repeat the prayer. This is based on what was narrated by Muslim and others, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 274Sahih (Darussalam) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
