The Obligation of Performing the Prayer in Its Time

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 20930 )
Q 3: A woman delays the prayers from their times, sometimes with an excuse and sometimes without an excuse, especially the Fajr prayer. What is the ruling on that? May Allah preserve you and protect you.
A 3: It is obligatory for the Muslim to perform the prayer in its time, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times.إِنَّ الصَّلاَةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَوْقُوتًا
[An-Nisa 4:103]
, and it is better to hasten to perform it at the beginning of its time, and it is not permissible
for the Muslim to delay it until its time passes without an excuse. If this woman’s delay of the prayer is due to an excuse such as forgetfulness or sleep, and she did not neglect it, then she performs it whenever she remembers it, due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever sleeps through a prayer or forgets it, let him pray it when he remembers it. There is no expiation for it except that.من نام عن صلاة أو نسيها فليصلها إذا ذكرها، لا كفارة لها إلا ذلك
agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. However, if she neglected it by delaying it from its time intentionally, or if she delayed in sleeping without dire necessity, such as if that was her habit and she did not do the things that would wake her up, like an alarm clock, or having a trustworthy person from her family wake her up at prayer time, then she is sinful for that and in great danger. So this woman should repent with sincere repentance from this bad deed, and do the things that help her perform the prayer in its time; because it is feared that she may be sealed with a bad ending, and may Allah protect us from that. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
