Restricting oneself to al-Masjid al-Haram on the grounds that it is the best of the mosques

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 19196 )
Q: A man from the residents of Makkah al-Mukarramah , who does not make the journey to al-Masjid al-Nabawi al-Sharif except rarely, on the pretext that prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram is better than prayer in al-Masjid al-Nabawi , so how does he leave the better for the lesser? This is his argument, so is what he says correct?
A: Making the journey to visit al-Masjid al-Nabawi is a sunnah (recommended practice) for which its doer is rewarded and its leaver is not punished, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
One should not undertake journeys except to three mosques: al-Masque al-Haram (in Makkah ), the Aqsa mosque, or this mosque (in Madinah).لا تشد الرحال إلا إلى ثلاثة مساجد: المسجد الحرام ومسجدي هذا والمسجد الأقصى
Bulugh al-Maram 5:58
Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And prayer in al-Masjid al-Nabawi has great virtue, but prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram is better than it; for what al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated in
(In the two Sahihs) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Salat is this Masjid of mine is better than a thousand Salat in another, except for Masjid Al-Haram.صلاة في مسجدي هذا خير من ألف صلاة فيما سواه إلا المسجد الحرام
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 325Sahih (Darussalam)
. And this man’s remaining in Makkah and his not visiting Madinah, he owes nothing for that; because he has settled for the superior with what is better than it, and more in the multiplication of prayers, since the prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram is multiplied by a hundred thousand prayers compared to any other place. The Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (vol. 27, p. 325) said: The majority of scholars are of the view that al-Masjid al-Haram is the best of the mosques, and the prayer in it is a hundred thousand prayers. This was narrated by Ahmadand al-Nasa'i and others with a good chain, with the wording:
and one prayer in the Sacred Mosque is better than one hundred thousand prayers elsewhere.وصلاة في المسجد الحرام أفضل من مائة ألف صلاة فيما سواه
Sunan Ibn Majah 1406Sahih (Darussalam)
And al-Bayhaqiand Ibn Majah narrated something similar. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
