Selling a villa and building a mosque with its value

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21275 )
Q: We are the Muslim community in the city of ( Aukcel ). We wanted to begin working in Islam, so we submitted a request to the French authorities to obtain a plot of land on which to build a mosque. When the time dragged on
we purchased a house built in the Western style (a villa) and prayed in that villa for a period until the French authorities gave us the plot of land. However, we do not have the means to build with except that villa. Since we act according to the Book and the Sunnah, we do not want to proceed with a matter until we know the ruling of the Shari'ah in it, and we agree that any matter must be documented in the association's file. Question: Is it permissible for us to sell the villa and build the mosque with its value?

A: There is no harm in selling the villa and building the mosque with its value if you are in no need of it. Otherwise, you should continue praying in the villa until you are able to build the mosque, or until someone who desires good among the Muslims builds it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
