Fatwa No. ( 18096 )
Q: I would like you, with your permissiveness, to clarify for me what has been confused for me in the following: It is established in authentic hadiths that when a son of Adam dies, his soul ascends to the sky, where it is shown its place in Paradise or the Fire, then it returns to the body and remains in it until the Day of Reckoning. It is also established in authentic hadiths that when the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was raised to the sky in the event of the Night Journey and Ascension, he saw people in Paradise, as he saw people in the Fire, and we were described what he saw with the naked eye. How is reconciliation achieved between these hadiths? And may Allah reward you with good.
A: The principle is that the bodies of the dead are on earth, and the soul is in its abode in bliss or punishment, and it has a connection to the body. As for what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) saw, this is a karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person) from Allah for His Prophet, whereby He made the souls appear to him in the form of bodies. He saw Adam, Ibrahim, Musa, and Isa (peace be upon them), as he saw in the eclipse prayer 'Amr ibn Luhayy dragging his intestines in the Fire, and he reported that the woman who confined the cat until it died of hunger is being punished in the Fire.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
