Bathing the spouses with water recited over and camphor

Fatwa number ( 21533 )
Q: Some families, when the marriage contract is concluded for their daughters or sons, bring water over which the Qur'an has been recited,
and place a quantity of camphor salt, which is used to wash the dead, mixed with Faks oil, and they wash the groom and bride with it out of fear of the evil eye, envy, and sorcery, believing that it is permissible. Is this practice permissible in the Shari'ah? Please issue a ruling on this, may Allah reward you with every good, and may Allah preserve and protect you.

A: Reciting the Qur'an over water and placing a quantity of camphor salt on it, mixed with Faks oil, in this manner to prevent the evil eye, envy, and sorcery from one who wishes to marry is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no basis in the Shari'ah. It is not established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) nor from any of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). It is not permissible to believe that benefit or harm comes from this method. A person should restrict himself to what has been transmitted regarding the lawful ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation) with the Qur'an and the beautiful names of Allah, and should protect himself with the Prophetic dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and supplications. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
