Fatwa No. ( 17195 )
Q: We hope you will issue a ruling, may Allah reward you, regarding the issue of reciting the following verses over a child when he is to be weaned.
Is there a basis for this practice in the Shari'ah? The verses are: 1- Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Qasas 28:12] . 2- Allah the Exalted said: [Al-A'raf 7:32] . 3- Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:26] . 4- Allah the Exalted said: [At-Tahrim 66:1] . And if the one who recites over the child wishes, he concludes with Allah the Exalted saying: [Al-Hashr 59:21]
Then he blows over the child three times. Please rule for us, may Allah reward you with good: do we act upon this on the basis that it is reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or do we warn against it on the grounds that it has no prior basis?
A: This has no basis in the pure Shari'ah, and what is such is a religious innovation if one worships Allah through it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?"
Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has produced for His servants
Then indeed, it is forbidden to them for forty years
O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made lawful for you
If We had sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah
Then he blows over the child three times.
