Fatwa number ( 18339 )
Q: A man vowed to spend a sum of his money on the mosque every month if he got a job , and that happened. Then, after a while, he found a very poor family in dire need of someone to help them and give them charity. May he give them that amount instead of giving it as charity to the mosque?
A : It is obligatory for you to fulfill your vow and to spend the amount you designated on the mosque. It is not permissible for you to spend it on the poor, because you designated its destination when you made the vow.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
