The change in the value of the currency I vowed to give over the passage of years

Fatwa number ( 19533 )
Q: In 1983 CE, I made a vow to Allah the Exalted, the substance of which was: if I succeed in the baccalaureate exam, I will give some of my friends the sum of
(50 D J) each, and I did succeed, but I did not fulfill my vow . I am now in great distress, and I ask you for some clarification on my following questions: 1 - Does the value of (50 D J) in 1983 CE change in the current time, 1997 CE, or does it remain fixed? 2 - Due to the length of the period, I no longer remember exactly the number of friends concerned in my vow, and what is certain is: that they do not exceed seven? Therefore, is it permissible to take the majority, 7 × 50 D J = 350 D J, and divide this amount among some poor people, or is that not permissible?
A: It is obligatory for you to fulfill your vow; and that is by paying the amount you vowed to pay to the persons you specified, and you should be cautious regarding their number. As for those among them whom you do not know or to whom you cannot reach, it is obligatory to spend their share with the intention of it being for them, to the poor. You should pay out of the currency you specified at the time of the vow, as long as it is in circulation and used in transactions, regardless of any change in its value. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
