Fatwa number ( 20705 )
Q: I made a vow to Allah to fast ten full days if I obtained my baccalaureate degree , starting from the moment I heard the news. After the exam, the results were announced, and, praise be to Allah, I was among those who passed. So I fasted that day and added the following day. However, I suffered from extreme fatigue on the second day, because on the one hand it was the summer season, and on the other hand I was affected by my friends not passing.
I could not even break my fast due to the intensity of the exhaustion, so I stopped fasting during that period. I did not know what to do, especially since I vowed to fast these days in one go, and this was by an oath from me, meaning: I broke my oath. So give us a ruling, may you be rewarded.
A: It is obligatory for you to fulfill the vow you made, and to fast those days consecutively. You must expiate for your delay in fasting them at the time you specified by the expiation for an oath: feed ten poor people, each poor person half a sa' of food, which is approximately one and a half kilograms, or clothe them, or free a believing slave. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
