Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Questions fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, and eighteen from Fatwa number ( 11697 )
Q 14, 15, 16: Is it permissible to eat the meat served in American restaurants ? Some American restaurants use pork fat for frying or in bread or cakes. Does a Muslim have to ask about the type of fat used in every restaurant he enters? Some products, such as bread, list "fat" in the ingredients without specifying whether it is vegetable or animal. Is it recommended to contact the manufacturing companies to inquire about the type of fat used? There is much doubt regarding certain ingredients, such as gelatin or the bread
used in certain restaurants, with the suspicion that pork fat is used in them. Is it permissible to eat when there is doubt? And is it recommended to ask about it?

A 14, 15, 16: One must inquire in detail, as it is obligatory to guard against eating what is forbidden.
Q 17: Some restaurants grill beef on the same grill plate on which they grill pork. Is it permissible to eat that meat? They also use the same knife for cutting.
A 17: It is not permissible to eat beef grilled on the plate on which pork is grilled, nor is it permissible to use the same knife.
Q 18: Is it obligatory to read the ingredient lists written on food to ensure there are no pork or alcohol products ?
A 18: Yes, it is obligatory. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
