Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 5442 )
Q 4: The restaurants of disbelievers and the contamination of their utensils with pork meat and fat, as well as intoxicants, is eating in these restaurants permissible or is it forbidden?
A 4: The utensils of the restaurants of disbelievers, or others, that are used to serve pork meat and fat and intoxicants, it is not permissible to eat or drink in them except after washing them; due to the ritual impurity of pork meat and fat, and likewise intoxicants. The basis for this is
The hadith of Abu Thalhah al-Khushani, who said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and I said: O Messenger of Allah, we are in the land of the People of the Book, we eat in their utensils, and in the land of hunting, I hunt with my bow, and I hunt with my trained dog, and with my dog that is not trained. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: As for what you mentioned that you are in the land of the People of the Book, do not eat in their utensils unless you do not find an alternative. If you do not find an alternative, wash them and eat in them. And as for what you mentioned that you are in the land of hunting, whatever you hunt with your bow, mention the name of Allah and eat it. Whatever you hunt with your trained dog, mention the name of Allah and eat it. And whatever you hunt with your dog that is not trained, if you catch it while it is still alive, eat itحديث أبي ثعلبة الخشني قال: أتيت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقلت: يا رسول الله: إنا بأرض أهل الكتاب نأكل في آنيتهم وبأرض صيد أصيد بقوسي وأصيد بكلبي المعلم وبكلبي الذي ليس بمعلم، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: أما ما ذكرت أنك بأرض أهل كتاب فلا تأكلوا في آنيتهم إلا أن لا تجدوا بدًّا، فإن لم تجدوا بدًّا فاغسلوها وكلوا فيها، وأما ما ذكرت أنكم بأرض صيد، فما صدت بقوسك فاذكر اسم الله وكل، وما صدت بكلبك المعلم فاذكر اسم الله وكل، وما صدت بكلبك الذي ليس بمعلم فأدركت ذكاته فكله
narrated by al-Bukhari and others, and the wording is his. From this hadith, it becomes clear
that if a Muslim does not find anything other than the utensils of the People of the Book, he uses them after he washes them. As for if he finds others, or if the Muslim does not wash them, it is not permissible to eat in them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
