Swearing by Allah not to shake hands with women, then shaking hands with them while forgetful

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 1296 )
Q: He swore by Allah not to shake hands with women, and after a period of time, he entered a gathering where there were women who were their neighbors, and he shook their hands while forgetting his previous oath. He asks what is required of him?
A: If the matter is as the questioner stated, that he shook hands with the women after his oath not to shake their hands, and that this was from him by way of forgetfulness, then there is no blame on him; for Allah the Exalted said:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.رَبَّنَا لاَ تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
the verse. And it is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
I have let you off.قال الله تعالى: قد فعلت
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4694Sahih (Darussalam)
, and for what was narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Allah has forgiven my nation for mistakes and forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do.عفي عن أمتي الخطأ والنسيان وما استكرهوا عليه
Sunan Ibn Majah 2045Sahih (Darussalam)
. And if he does something of this in the future while remembering and intending it, the expiation of the oath becomes obligatory upon him. Knowing that it is not permissible for him by the Shari'ah to shake hands with women unless they are among his mahrams, such as his mother, his sister, his daughter, and the like of them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
