The first question of Fatwa No. ( 13794 )
Q1: I promised a man that I would marry his daughter, but my father
refused, and I married another woman. Do I owe an expiation?

A1: It is obligatory for you to pay an expiation for an oath for not fulfilling your promise to marry the daughter of the aforementioned man. The expiation is to feed ten poor people, or clothe them, or free a believing slave. If you cannot find the means to do so, then fast for three days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
