Wearing gold for men

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 2118 )
Q: A religious discussion took place among our colleagues regarding wearing gold for men , such as a ring, a watch case, a coat button, and the like. Some of us considered it forbidden, while others argued by citing dental work, saying: If it were forbidden, why would some people have gold teeth? How can teeth be lawful while wearing it is forbidden? This has confused us. We ask your Eminence to issue a ruling on this that clarifies for us what is lawful and what is forbidden. May Allah reward you with good for us and for all Muslims.
A: Using gold as adornment for men is forbidden, whether it is a ring, a watch case, a button, a tooth, or the like; for the two Shaykhs narrated in their authentic collections from al-Bara' ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us with seven things and forbade us from seven things. He said: (And he forbade us from gold rings, or from wearing gold rings, and from drinking from silver vessels)أمرنـا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بسبع ونهانا عن سبع) قال: (ونهانا عن خواتيم أو عن تختم بالذهب، وعن شرب بالفضة
... The hadith. And what was narrated by
Ahmad and al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i from the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari : that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Gold and silk have been permitted for the females of my Ummah, and forbidden to the males.أحل الذهب والحرير لإناث أمتي وحرم على ذكورها
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5148Sahih (Darussalam)
End. And what came in (the two authentic collections) from the hadith of Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Do not drink in silver or gold utensils, and do not eat in plates of such metals, for such things are for them (the disbelievers) in this worldly life and for you in the Hereafter.لا تشربوا في آنية الذهب والفضة، ولا تأكلوا في صحافهما، فإنهم لهم في الدنيا ولكم في الآخرة
Bulugh al-Maram 16
, and what came in (Sahih Muslim ) from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The one who drinks from a silver vessel is swallowing Hell-fire into his belly.الذي يشرب في إناء الفضة والذهب إنما يجرجر في بطنه نار جهنم
Sunan Ibn Majah 3413Sahih (Darussalam)
, but in cases of dire necessity, it is permissible to use gold as a tooth, in the nose, or the like, if nothing else can serve its purpose. As for using it as a ring, a button, or a watch case, it is not permissible, due to the absence of dire necessity for that. Likewise, making a watch, pens, or the like out of gold for men. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
