The Ruling on Men Using Gold, Whether in Rings, Teeth, Watches, or Other Items

The questioner: His final question is: What is the ruling in Islam regarding gold for men? I see some men, both elderly and young, wearing gold teeth or gold rings. I had an accident and was forced to get a gold tooth. What is the ruling on that?
The Shaykh: As for wearing a gold ring or putting gold chains around the neck, this is not permissible. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade men from wearing gold rings. He saw a man with a gold ring on his hand, so he took it off and threw it away, saying:. This is not permissible. Likewise, gold rings are not permissible because they are like rings, and they are exclusively for women. Similarly, the gold chains that some young men put around their necks are also blameworthy. A gold watch for men is not permissible; a gold watch is not permissible for men. As for a gold tooth, it may be excused if there is a need for it. There is no harm in a gold tooth or a gold bridge.
If it is possible to get teeth made of something other than gold that serve the same purpose, that is sufficient and there is nothing wrong with it. That may be more cautious, but there is no harm in a gold tooth, because it is done out of necessity, not for adornment. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he permitted a man whose nose was injured to make a replacement out of silver. It became foul-smelling on him, so he made a replacement out of gold, by his command (peace and blessings be upon him). This indicates the permissibility of a gold nose, or a gold tooth, or a gold bridge, when there is a need. Yes.
