The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 8097 )
Q4: The use of gold and silver vessels is forbidden, as mentioned in the Sunnah. Is a silver ring and a silver prayer bead string, as well as a silver watch, also considered among the forbidden vessels mentioned?
A4: It is permissible for a man to make a ring of silver; because the evidence indicates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made a ring of silver, on which was written (Muhammad, Messenger of Allah). As for making a watch and a prayer bead string of silver, there is a difference of opinion among the scholars, and the safest course for the believer is to leave it, in order to avoid the disagreement of the scholars, and because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Bulugh al-Maram 16:32 The hadith is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
