Fatwa No. ( 1819 )
Q: A woman vowed that if her son remained alive until he was able to serve her, she would slaughter a sacrificial animal every year as a vow to Allah, and he reached maturity and served her, and she fulfilled this vow for several years. Two years ago, she was told that slaughtering an animal every year was not obligatory, and she is seeking a ruling on this matter.
A: What the aforementioned woman did by beginning to fulfill her vow by slaughtering a sacrificial animal every year after her son began serving her is what is required of her, and she will be rewarded for it, if Allah wills. It is obligatory for her to continue doing so as long as she is able to afford the cost of the sacrificial animal, and she must make up for the slaughtering she missed during the past two years in order to complete the fulfillment of the vow she made; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
