The Conditional Vow

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 12905 )
Q 2: About (12) years ago, a person made a vow for the sake of Allah the Exalted that if his desire for... etc. was fulfilled, he would invite the people of his village and slaughter (5) sheep or a small camel for them. In his understanding, the people of the village would remain gathered, with love for Allah, sincerity, and mutual understanding prevailing among the people of the small village. However, what happened was not anticipated. With the help of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, his desire was fulfilled, but the people of his village scattered throughout the Kingdom, and their gathering is extremely difficult, indeed impossible. So here is the following: 1 - Is it possible to slaughter the vow and distribute it to the poor and needy as meat, or is he obligated to give it only to the people of his village as he vowed? 2 - Is it possible to take the value of that in money and distribute it to the poor and needy? 3 - If he is unable to fulfill the vow, is anything else obligatory upon him? 4 - If he is unable to pay it all at once, is it possible for him to pay from his monthly income; meaning one sheep or
its value each month, or is he obligated to pay it all at once? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.

A 2: It is obligatory for one who makes a conditional vow that is an act of obedience to Allah the Exalted to fulfill his vow if the condition upon which it was contingent is fulfilled. In this matter, you must slaughter the aforementioned sheep for those of the people of your village who are present, and if it becomes difficult to feed them, then feed the poor and the needy. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
