Fatwa number ( 13611 )
Q: I have a sister who fell ill, and at that time my grandmother, my father’s mother, vowed that if Allah granted her healing, she would take her to visit the Noble Prophet’s Mosque, but my grandmother passed away before fulfilling her vow, may Allah have mercy on her. Is it obligatory for me to take my sister and go with her to the Noble Prophet’s Mosque to fulfill my grandmother’s vow, if Allah wills? And if it is not permissible, what must I do? Therefore, I ask your eminence to kindly issue a fatwa for me on this matter, and what is obligatory? Peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
A: There is no harm in your taking your sister, after her recovery, to visit the Prophet’s Mosque to fulfill your grandmother’s vow; because it is a vow of obedience, and it is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6696 . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
