Q: What is the ruling in Islam regarding a woman who insists that her son divorce his wife, even though his wife is obedient to him and of good character, and he has a son and a daughter from her? He is torn between pleasing his mother and wronging his wife. What should he do? Please advise us, may Allah reward you.
A : It is obligatory for you to be dutiful to your mother and to treat her well in word and deed, but it is not obligatory for you to divorce your wife at her request, if the situation is as described in the question; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Abi Dawud 2625Sahih (Al-Albani) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
