Q: I ask the Generous Allah to grant us the length of your lives, successful in all good and safe from all evil. I am eager to present to you a great matter in which the Muslims in our country have been led astray, due to its coming from a man who claims knowledge, whom people respect for his good companionship and fine character. He is a well-known preacher in a large mosque in a prestigious city named ( Al-Way ), namely: Shaykh Muhyi al-Din al-Way , who was formerly a teacher at the Islamic University in Madinah al-Munawwarah. The matter is: that the man said to a righteous man: "O so-and-so, you are a disbeliever because of your claim that it is obligatory for Muslims to obey the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) absolutely" ; because the meaning of worship is: obedience absolutely, and it is the right of Allah alone, and singling out Allah with that obedience
is tawhid (the oneness of Allah), and that obeying other than Him absolutely is shirk (associating partners with Allah), and that a group of Muslims believe that this scholar, because of his declaring the righteous believer a disbeliever, has become one of the disbelievers. We ask your Eminence to be generous with the Muslims by providing a decisive answer that settles the dispute, and we hope that all Muslims will listen and submit to your answer, and you are, by the grace of Allah, the focus of the attention of the Muslims in our country. May Allah preserve you as a treasure for Islam. And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
A: Obedience to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is absolute and not restricted, because Allah the Exalted commanded it in the clear revelation in many verses in an absolute manner, such as His saying:[An-Nur 24:54] , and His saying: [An-Nisa 4:80] , and His saying, Mighty and Majestic: [Ali 'Imran 3:132] in many verses, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 1835c agreed upon
by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And by this it is known that what this imam said is pure error and a great mistake, contrary to the evidence of the Shari'ah from the Book and the Sunnah and to the consensus of the scholars, but he is not declared a disbeliever for this until his error is clarified to him; if he persists in it and does not repent, he is ruled to be a disbeliever. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.

Say, "Obey Allah and obey the Messenger; but if you turn away - then upon him is only that [duty] with which he has been charged, and upon you is that with which you have been charged. And if you obey him, you will be [rightly] guided. And there is not upon the Messenger except the [responsibility for] clear notification."
He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah
مَنْ يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللَّهَAnd obey Allah and the Messenger that you may obtain mercy.
وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَWhoso obeys me obeys God; and whose disobeys me disobeys God.
