Fatwa number ( 16155 )
Q: I am an old man, fifty-nine years of age, and I was hasty when I heard the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(17) The repentance accepted by Allah is only for those who do wrong in ignorance [or carelessness] and then repent soon after. It is those to whom Allah will turn in forgiveness, and Allah is ever Knowing and Wise. (18) But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "Indeed, I have repented now," or of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment.
[An-Nisa 4:17-18]
Does committing a sin while knowing it is a sin prevent repentance ? Please inform us, may Allah have mercy on you.

A: A person’s committing a sin while knowing it is a sin does not prevent repentance. Three conditions are required for repentance: ceasing the sin, feeling remorse for what has passed, and resolving not to return to the sin. And if there is
a right belonging to a human being, it is obligatory to return it to him or seek his permission to keep it, and everyone who disobeys Allah is ignorant. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
