Sincere Repentance That Is Hoped to Be Accepted

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 6254 )
Q: I am a man who, in my youth, was attached to the teachings of the pure religion, performing the prayer, standing in night prayer, and the rest of the pillars of Islam, until I completed my intermediate secondary education. Then I joined the Air Force and was assigned to a mission in the United States of America . Upon my arrival in America , I found that everything was different from our Islamic country and the teachings of the pure religion. So I walked the path of evil and followed the worst of things. After a while, I stopped doing all of this and returned to the Muslim homeland. I was not performing any of the pillars of Islam. After that, I returned to the right path, but sometimes I would walk the right path and then return to the evil path. Now, praise be to Allah, I am on the right and true path. I am afraid of the punishment of the Majestic and Honorable, and I seek Allah’s forgiveness for the evil I did. Therefore, I ask for your fatwa and advice on the correct path,
and what is the method I must follow so that I never deviate from the teachings of the Islamic Shari'ah? May Allah reward you with all good.

A: First: Know that the sincere repentance that is hoped to be accepted, and by which Allah replaces the evil deeds of the one who brings it with good deeds, is that which includes: truthfulness in repentance, ceasing from the sin, regret for having done it, and the resolve not to return to it, and returning to the person what was of his right, or seeking his pardon, if that is possible. If this action is realized, we hope that Allah will pardon you and forgive you for what has passed of your sin. Second: The sound method is: to be upright upon the Shari'ah of Allah by doing what you are able of His commands, and the commands of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and refraining from what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden; hoping for His reward and fearing His punishment. Also, increase in performing voluntary acts of worship, such as prayer, charity, and recitation of His Book, and avoid sitting with those who may drag you to evil among people. May Allah grant us and you uprightness upon His Shari'ah, and death while He is pleased with us. Indeed, He, Blessed and Exalted is He, is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
