Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 17983 )
Q1: A man converted to Islam and has haram wealth from before his conversion . What should be done with the wealth: should he give it in charity, and is it permissible for him to invest it? After investing it, does it become halal or haram? Please inform us as soon as possible. May Allah reward you with the best reward.
A1: If a man converts to Islam and has wealth from haram earnings, it is his property, and it is not obligatory for him to dispose of it; because Islam wipes out what came before it. As for what of this wealth belongs to the rights of people, it is obligatory to return it
to its owners. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
