Q: The Companion's statement to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
Shall I make all my prayer for you? He said to him: "Then your concerns will be sufficed..."أفأجعل لك صلاتي كلها؟ فقال له الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم: إذًا تكفى همك..
to the end of the hadith. What is the meaning of: "Shall I make all my prayer for you?"

A: The meaning of "prayer" here is supplication, and the meaning of the hadith is the encouragement to increase in sending prayers and blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because of the great reward therein. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book (Jala' al-Afham fi al-Salah wa al-Salam 'ala Khayr al-Anam): "Our Shaykh Abu al-Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about the interpretation of this hadith, and he said:
Abu ibn Ka'b had a supplication he used to make for himself, so he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) if he could make a quarter of it a prayer upon him (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: "If you increase, it is better for you." He said to him: "Half." He said: "If you increase, it is better for you," until he said: "Shall I make all my prayer for you," meaning: I make all my supplication a prayer upon you. He said: "Then your concerns will be sufficed, and your sin will be forgiven."
Because whoever sends one prayer upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah sends ten prayers upon him, and whoever Allah sends prayers upon, He suffices his concerns and forgives his sin. This is the meaning of his words. End of quote. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
