What is the meaning of Abu' ibn Ka'b's statement to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): “I send much of my prayers upon you in my prayer...”?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The questioner : How are you, O Shaykh?

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, I am well.

The questioner : Regarding the question.

The Shaykh : Please go ahead.

The questioner : The hadith of Abi' ibn Ka'b, in which he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I send much of my prayers upon you, so what shall I make for you of my prayers?” Until he reached: “Make all my prayers for you.” He said (peace and blessings be upon him):
It will suffice your concern and forgive your sin إذا يكفى همك ويغفر ذنبك
If you would allow me, I would like to clarify the hadith. May Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : The point of the hadith, my brother, is that that Muslim, like any other Muslim, has a time in which he worships Allah, calls upon Allah, reads the Qur'an, and sends prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard from that man that he dedicates that time to sending prayers upon him, he responded with what you heard or what you mentioned.

The questioner : It will suffice your concern and forgive your sin.

The Shaykh : Yes, exactly.

The questioner : Does this suffice in place of supplication?

The Shaykh : Supplication, my brother, as I think, is not hidden from any Muslim that it is of two types: an obligatory type and a recommended type. This does not suffice and does not replace the obligatory; the obligatory is necessary. But we said that this man has a time he dedicates to drawing near to Allah with what is recommended of dhikr, supplication, and recitation of the Qur'an, and the like. But in reality, nothing replaces anything, even in matters that are recommended. However, if a person has a specific time and makes it for sending prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then he has the virtue mentioned in the hadith. This does not mean that it is not permissible or not recommended for him to recite the Qur'an, or that it is not recommended for him to supplicate according to his needs and desires and the like. Rather, it means that if he dedicates that time to sending prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah will forgive his sin. That is the intent of the hadith.

The questioner : Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
