The Innovated Supplication

Fatwa No. ( 20728 )
Q: I came across a supplication in a school magazine, and the text of this supplication is: (O Allah, do not make me a deviant, nor a quasi-deviant, and make me upright, and drop a pillar of light upon me, and admit me into the circle of Your mercy, and place me in the sphere of the righteous). What is observed, O honorable Shaykh, is that geometric terms have been used. Is such a supplication permissible, or is it considered an innovated supplication ? We ask you to look into it and respond, may Allah bless you and preserve you.
A: This supplication contains words that do not conform to the pure Shari'ah, such as his saying "nor a quasi-deviant," and his saying "and drop a pillar of light upon me." It is obligatory to abandon it and to supplicate with the supplications found in the Qur'an, or those established in the Sunnah, and what does not contradict the Book and the Sunnah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
