Fatwa No. ( 15661 )
Q: I am writing this letter to you to seek your advice and to benefit from your knowledge regarding this supplication attached to this letter. I have known this supplication for ten years, and I used to recite it for many people. They asked me who said this supplication, what its chain of narration is, who transmitted it, and who authenticated it? I asked the scholars about this supplication, but I found no one who knew it or could provide its chain of narration.
After my travel from Sham to America , I got to know a friend from among the people of good who advised me to use this supplication and gave me about a hundred copies to distribute among the Muslims there. I did not do so because of my fear regarding its authenticity and its chain of narration, and I found no one who would act upon it. Therefore, I am sending you a copy of the supplication, hoping that the Master will send me the answer, the chain of narration, and the verification, as well as who narrated it and who acted upon it. I hope that Allah, the Most High, the All-Powerful, will guide us to what He loves and is pleased with. Its text is: (It is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he was sitting in a gathering when Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him and said: O Muhammad, your Lord sends you his greetings and singles you out for salutations and honor, and says to you: I wish to give you a gift that I have not given to anyone else, neither before you nor after you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What is this gift, O my brother Jibril? He said: A blessed supplication; whoever reads it once in his lifetime, or writes it, or hangs it on himself, or carries it with him, will have the reward of one who glorifies Allah the Exalted for nine hundred years, and his sins will be forgiven even if they were like the foam of the sea, and he will emerge from his sins as his mother gave birth to him. Whoever wishes to see you in his dream should read it and sleep, for he will see you. Whoever is sick and it is recited over him will be healed by the permission of Allah the Exalted. Whoever is afraid of someone, Allah will protect him from his evil. Whoever is poor, Allah will enrich him from the abundance of His grace. Whoever is a traveler will be safe in his journey. And whoever writes it with musk and saffron in a
clean vessel, and he has severe pain, and drinks it, Allah will cure him of that illness. If he writes it on a paper and places it in the shroud of the deceased, it will ease for him the answering of questions to Allah in the grave, and he will be safe from the punishment of the grave, and Allah will resurrect him on the Day of Resurrection with a thousand angels carrying him on the Sirat. If something is stolen from him or a slave is lost, let him perform wudu, pray two rak'ahs, and read in each rak'ah the Opening of the Book and the Chapter of Sincerity, and in the second likewise. When he finishes his prayer, he reads this supplication, for Allah the Exalted will return his lost item to him. If he cannot read, he places it before him and says: O Allah, by the right of this supplication, return my lost item and fulfill my need, and he mentions it. Whoever reads it once in his lifetime, the angels will hear it and ask Allah for forgiveness for him. It is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that whoever reads this supplication and does not respect it and does not believe in it, I am innocent of him. And whoever is stingy with it toward the Muslims, Allah will punish him on the Day of Resurrection with a painful punishment. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he had a need or intended a war, would read this supplication. And whoever doubts this supplication, he is to be feared for. And Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to advise us to preserve this supplication; when I read it, I saw the Prophet in my dream. And 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By the blessing of this supplication, Islam became manifest. And Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By the blessing of this supplication, I memorized the Qur'an. And 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may
Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever preserves this supplication will come on the Day of Resurrection with his face like the moon on the night of the full moon, and he will enter Paradise without reckoning. And al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever reads this supplication once in his lifetime, Allah the Exalted will send him a hundred thousand angels when he descends into the grave, each angel holding a plate of light in his hand, containing whatever he desires, and they will say: O servant of Allah, do not be afraid, we will keep you company until the Day of Resurrection, and your grave will become a garden from the gardens of Paradise. And Allah the Exalted will say: I am shy to punish one who reads this supplication and carries it or is buried with it in his grave. Jibril (peace be upon him) said: This supplication is written on the pillars of the Throne five hundred years before Allah created the world. And whoever reads it with belief, whether at the beginning of the month, in the middle, or at the end, Allah the Exalted will create seventy thousand angels under the Throne, and each angel will have a thousand tongues, and each tongue will have a language to glorify Allah the Exalted and seek forgiveness for whoever reads this supplication. And whoever reads it over the shroud of the deceased, Allah the Exalted will send him seventy thousand angels, and in their hands will be cups of light filled with drink of four colors from the drink of Paradise, and on each cup will be a napkin of light, sealed, written upon it: A gift from Allah the Exalted to so-and-so, son of so-and-so, the reader of this supplication. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O my brother Jibril, will all this reward be for my Ummah? He said
Jibril (peace be upon him): Rather, more than that. And Jibril said: O Muhammad, whoever reads this supplication once in his lifetime will have the reward of the awliya, the chosen ones, the ascetics, the worshippers, the patient, the thankful, and those who seek forgiveness. And this is the blessed supplication. In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. In the name of Allah, Light. In the name of Allah, Light upon Light. And all praise is due to Allah who manages affairs. And all praise is due to Allah who created Light and spoke to Musa on Mount Tur. And all praise is due to Allah who is mentioned with what is right and famous with majesty and greatness, and thanked in times of ease and hardship. And all praise is due to Allah who created the heavens and the earth and made the darknesses and the light. Then those who disbelieved consider their Lord to be equal. Ka-Ha-Ya-'Ayn. Ha-Mim-'Ayn-Sad. You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help. O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by You I seek help. Allah is Subtle with His servants, He provides for whom He wills, and He is the Strong, the Mighty. O Sufficient, the One who is rich in need of everything by His power over everything, forgive me for everything, and do not ask me about anything, and turn away from me everything, for You are Able over everything. In Your hand is the good, and You are Able over everything. Glory be to Allah, and all praise is due to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power and no strength except by Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent. By Your mercy, O the Most Merciful of the merciful.

A: This supplication mentioned in the question is an innovated supplication, and what is mentioned regarding
the urging to promote it and what is mentioned regarding the promises that follow from using it and promoting it is all a lie. It is obligatory to deny it and not to promote it. And Allah knows best. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
