The wisdom behind the prohibition of isbal (letting a garment hang below the ankles)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of the fatwa number ( 7881 )
Q2: I want a clear and convincing ruling on the impermissibility of lengthening—letting hang—the garment, especially since I heard from one of the scholars that there is no objection to letting the garment hang if it is not out of arrogance and pride; because the wisdom behind not letting it hang in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was: the presence of mud and the uncleanliness of the roads, whereas now the person always uses his car, and the roads are very clean, so what should be done?
A2: He who limited the wisdom of the prohibition of isbal to what was mentioned has erred. Rather, among its wisdoms is that it is a manifestation of arrogance and extravagance, and the principle is to act according to the explicit text that has come regarding this, whether the wisdom is apparent or not. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
