Doing School Assignments During Duty Hours

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 15260 )
Q 1: Some military personnel assigned to field security duties complete their religious school assignments, such as memorizing the Qur'an and hadiths, or studying tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), and this is at the expense of the work they are assigned. When the command established that they were neglecting their professional duties, it prohibited carrying religious books, including the Qur'an, in the patrol vehicle or in the operations room, so that the personnel would not be preoccupied with this and neglect their security duty. However, some objected to this prohibition, arguing that religious matters are more important than professional duties. This is, in its essence, a matter on which there is no disagreement, but experience has proven that in most cases, the intention was to exploit the time solely for the benefit of study. The question is: Is the command justified in this prohibition, or is there a religious objection to it?
A 1: The command is right in its prohibition, and if they perform their job duties with a good intention, it is a righteous deed for which they will be rewarded, because of the public benefit for Muslims involved in it.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
